Delft, Leidan, & The Hague

We had a long, but fun day! We had a driver/guide take us outside of Amsterdam to see some lovely other cities....they were too big to be what I call a town. First we went to Leiden....a college city. I made our driver swerve off of the road in route for photo ops! Not so sure he is keen on me! We saw lots of working old windmills. Beautiful! Next we went to The Hague. In route, we drove through a beautiful densely forested suburb where all of the ambassadors live......a big wow! He kept describing it as the Beverly Hills of the Netherlands! Ha! In The Hague, we loved seeing Parliament ( which was a former hunting lodge for a few wealthy dudes!) . Loved the palace....Queen Beatrix was not at home.....no flag flying! Didn't tour, but loved seeing the magnificent Peace Palace built by mostly Andrew Carnegie. Saw all the various courts.....the museum was closed. Next we went to a beautiful hotel on he beach to have lunch. The name begins with an "s". I just assumed that the Netherlands where all under sea level...so no beach...wrong ! Fab lunch! After lunch it was on to Delft! The porcelain shops here great .... Butthe church was the best!!!!!! Loved seeing William of Orange's tomb....and many other Royal tombs. After a short rest back in Amsterdam, we went to the Van Gough museum. It was open till 10. Barry did pretty well ! We had a very late dinner back close to our hotel on a canal. It was a great last day! I didn't get to see Rembrants in Amsterdam.....the museum is under restoration. I really wanted to see The Night Watchman! Next trip!
