Last Day with the Czars!

It was a fun last day with our great guide (Eugene) and wonderful driver (Slava). Pretty low key...which was great because we have really been cramming everything possible into our days! We went to see the St. Peter and St. Paul cathedral at the Peter and Paul Fortress. Beautiful church! Very important church to the Czars of Russia. It was begun in 1716, Catherine the Great and Peter the Great were both buried here, and the last Czar of Russia, Nicholas II was buried here along with all of his family and servants. Restoration work is taking place on the altar and it was interesting to watch the artisans work. We also visited the Political History Museum. It was interesting to see all of the anti-USA propaganda used during the Cold War. It has been so informative getting to know our guide and driver and her their opinions on politics in Russia. We also enjoyed a long lunch at a typical nice Russian restaurant. Loved it! Barry had them take us by the beautiful St. Nicholas church one more time. A wedding had just concluded and a christening was beginning. Fun to see! After we boarded, we went on deck to watch the ship leave St. Petersburg which takes a while. Our ship doesn't dock where all the large ships have dock because of our small size. We are right in the middle of the city! The large ships park outside the city and have to bus back and forth. Well....it poured as we were leaving, but I took pics anyway! Fun to see the enormous shipyards and the massive old Soviet era apartment buildings. We had a 7 course dinner tonight and a fun musical show.
