Stockholm

We arrived bright and early to the port in Stockholm. We were greeted at the ship by our guide and driver we had for the morning. We went to the Vasa Museum first. I was really happy to skip it if possible....but I am so glad that we listened to Hakan and went to see this magnificent old ship. It is the oldest intact named ship in the world on display. It was well preserved on the floor of the Baltic Sea. Originally it was painted red and all of the wooden carvings were painted life like. It was a war ship.....I guess the idea of camo didn't occur to them! Ha! We then drove all over the city....and it is just beautiful! We stopped and did a walking tour of the old town.....love it! We did all of this before noon! We checked into our hotel, the Lydmar. It overlooks the Royal Palace. It is a funky, fun.....but really nice hotel. We ate lunch here at the hotel. The restaurant at the hotel is big with the locals....and I can see why! Barry and I both had a cheeseburger! Missing good old American food! It didn't disappoint! I then took a long nap....Barry walked all around the city. He is really good with directions and maps...I think he has the city totally memorized! He took me on a guided walking tour of the old town....and we stopped at a teeny little Italian place called Paganini's. We did the right thing! It was one of the best Italian meals that I have ever had....hands down!!!! It was a good thing that we had to walk back to the hotel!!!
