It was another overcast day with blustery winds.....and intermittent rain throughout the day. But the beautifully colored facades of the churches and places brightened up the day! We love our driver and guide. We saw many things today...but here are my highlights..... St.Nicholas Cathedral: beautiful inside and out. It is pretty much the same as it was when Elizabeth was Empress. There were a lot of people worshipping there and you can't go into most of it unless you are a member. But, we loved what we did get to see. No pics allowed inside. Peterhof: Peter the Great's place on the Gulf of Finland with a beautiful cascade of waterfalls. It is all very much like Versailles. The Germans occupied it and gutted it firing WWII. The outside has been restored but they are still working on the inside. It was was raining and very windy, but I tried to take a few pics. There is nothing to take pics of inside really. Catherine Palace: again, the Germans gutted it during WWII, but it has been mostly restored. It is HUGE!!!! It is beautiful! The grounds (like Peterhof) are so extensive! I will have to come back to both of these again! You could spend a lot of time exploring these palaces!! If you haven't read "Catherine the Great", by all means, read it!!!! These palaces, cathedrals, churches, and dachas are all painted in beautiful colors....I told Barry that someone in Jackson would dial 9-1-1 if I attempted to fancy-up my house like this!
