In the Lions' Den at Singita Sasakwa

In the Lions' Den at Singita Sasakwa

For a day and a half, we shared a vehicle and guide with a lovely Irish couple (Dave and Suzanne) that lives in Dubai. We have Bushnell binoculars from Bass Pro. They had really nice Nikon ones. One morning we spent time watching a lioness's return to the pride after being on "holiday" with the King of the Jungle! After leaving the lions we made drove around for quite awhile. Dave was looking around the vehicle for his binocs. We all looked! He was counting them as "goners"! We all returned to the lodge for lunch and naps if you are me...working out or playing tennis if you are the rest of the family! When we gathered at tea before our late afternoon game drive, Gerald (our guide) told us that earlier in the afternoon he had gone back to where we had spotted the lions.....and that the lions had the binocs! We all jumped in the Jeep (Yes, I call all 4 wheel vehicles Jeeps!) and headed to where we left the lions. Indeed the binocs were in what I would call a lions den! The lions were all sleeping soundly about 50 yds away. Taylor volunteered to jump out and run into the den and grab them if Gerald would position the Jeep right above the den blocking the lions view. HIS WIFE WISELY NIXED THAT IDEA! Plus Gerald said that was way too dangerous...it would only take the lions a nanosecond to reach that area. As the words were coming out of his mouth, he jumped out of the vehicle and had those binocs back in Dave's hands! The pride certainly had a fab time playing with their new toy and Dave had quite a souvenir from their safari!
