Walk of Fame or Walk of Shame
We watched a handsome lion couple returning to the rest of the pride while at Singita Sasakwa in Tanzania. The pride is huge...lots of mamas, aunts, and kiddos. We had watched the pride the day before and had heard that there was a "courtship" going on in the area. When this happens, the couple goes away from the pride for 5-7 days for a honeymoon. The big male lions don't really hang with the pride except when love is in the air. It was so interesting to watch the happy couple (She honestly didn't look happy!) returning to the pride. Barry equated it to a college coed walking back into the sorority house after a very long date! Ha! The other pride members didn't go greet her..in fact, they didn't move anything except their eyes as they came near. Finally, after the returning lioness went and sat by another lioness, all of the members of the pride got up and had a meet and greet. One of the other lionesses, was not nice to the male lion. It didn't faze him. He even seemed to be checking out her sisters and aunts right off the bat! It was really fun watching the cubs crawling all over the King of the Jungle! He was sweet and gentle with them. Still not sure how the prodigal lioness felt about the whole situation!
