Sensational Sirikoi!!!!

After arriving at Sirikoi and settling into our lovely "tent", we enjoyed lunch on the deck. To our surprise and delight, the owners were given rescued baby giraffe 3 years ago. Soon she will join other giraffes here...but for now, she often wanders near the lodge. She isn't a "pet" but she will take food out of your hand. It was so much fun to see that long black tongue swiping the food from my hand. On our game drive, we saw so many things, but the pride of young lions was a highlight! They we're skittish...but I did get a few pics. The geography here has it all.....swampy areas, hills, Mt. Kenya in the background, and plains. It is on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, so we are having to endure what I call California weather! We had a fabulous dinner last night. A critically acclaimed wildlife cinematographer, producer, director, and author, Alan Root, and his family joined us for dinner. They live nearby. There are 2 other families here...one from Great Britain and the other from the Bay Area. The very intelligent son from the Bay Area has a keen interest and knowledge in African wildlife. The owners, Sue and Willie, wanted him to meet Alan Root. How nice was that!? All of the food here is locally sourced. Much of it, as well as the flowers, are all grow here on the property in an organic garden. I am telling myself over and over that organic doesn't mean...no calories.... Well, maybe it does!?!?!?
